Preparing for a wedding leaves an expectant bride and groom frazzled. Unless a wedding planner is handling everything including the wedding photographer, it is a good bet that something could fall through the cracks on the most important day of a couples lives. The wedding photography shouldn’t be that something.

Wedding photography is the one thing a couple cares about the most is capturing the special day in film. Attention to detail when it comes to hiring the wedding photographer is key in not losing wedding day memories.

Expect that they…

- provide wedding references
- provide an example of images they capture at weddings (look at both inside and outside shots; shots of the wedding party and the wedding guests)
- ask for a shot list (list of who to shoot and who can help them find the right wedding guests on the big day)
- familiarize themselves with both the wedding and receptionist venues
- show up early
- have back-up equipment
- have a back-up photographer
- provide a clear contract including discussed deliverables and due dates
- have a clear idea of who and what you want photographed the most

Word of mouth and viewing wedding photographs of friends and family is one way to find the right wedding photographer. Otherwise, rely on your instincts before you make a deposit and sign a contract. Be diligent in viewing a wedding photographer’s previous work and talk to their references.
